Artist's Statement

I  have  always  been  intrigued  by  the process  of  consciously  transcending reality through exploring, and then shifting, one's perception.  Several years ago I set out on an international travel adventure to confront psychological fear and limitation.   Having lived in the scorching deserts of Arizona for many years, I was intensely drawn to the opposing arctic deserts of places like Iceland, Greenland, and Patagonia.  I traveled twice a year for month-long adventures, usually on a bicycle, way out on gravel roads, days away from anyone, and camping in a little tent.  I created this series of B&W digital photographs along the way with a tiny pocket camera. The images reflect my love for the unusual shapes, fragile settings, and desolate landscapes I discovered, in The Middle Of Nowhere.

Artist's Bio

I am a multi-media visual and performance artist. The  themes  I  work  with  include minor obsessions,  the  bizarre  landscape, self  realization,  and  social  justice.  I often integrate storytelling into my work through text and spoken word.    I am originally from the Dallas Township area.    In the 90's I earned a BFA in Painting and an MFA in Performance Art (Intermedia), both from Arizona State University.  I have also studied extensively in the areas of Modern Dance performance and choreography, Video Art, and Photography.

In the late 90's, I moved to New York City to study Yoga philosophy and technique. I have since been teaching Yoga as spiritual practice in studios and private homes throughout New York City. Over  the  years,  I  have developed  my  own  signature  style  of Vinyasa  Yoga  called  Multi- Dimensional Yoga. I very beautifully weave contemporary spiritual teachings through a vigorous physical practice, to induce a state of congruency, where the heart, mind, and soul are in perfect alignment with the choices we make. I work with classical postures, as well as chanting, meditation, readings, stories, music and affirmations.

I will soon be traveling back to Iceland to expand upon my photographic theme The Middle Of Nowhere.
