The on going series Perhaps In A Dream
is a study in metaphor and symbolism. Inspired in part by the
surreal writings of Jorge Luis Borges this body of work utilizes
the plasticity of digital photography to create dreamlike, illusory
scenes where common objects seem to take on a profound meaning.
I seek out locations for the initial compositions in museums,
for example, where the art and the surrounding space is dramatically
lit. Digitally added to these backdrops various
objects complete the composite composition. Color, shadow,
texture, and other visual enhancements further accent the
ambience and psychological effect.
~Joe Statuto
Born and raised in Scranton, PA, Joe Statuto has spent his
entire life in pursuit of art and art history. After studying
drafting and design, Joe spent 4 years serving his country
in the United States Air Force stationed in Germany. Exposed
to the European art sensibility he became even more passionate
about art and the process of making art. Upon discharge from
military service, Joe attended Penn State University and graduated
with a Bachelor of Fine Art, concentration in painting. Some
years later, he discovered digital photography and never looked
back.
Over the past several years, he has worked as
a photo correspondent for local, national, and international
newspapers, most notably the Wall Street Journal, Times Leader,
and Frankfurt Daily. He also freelances as a product photographer
for several websites and serves as the president of the Northeast
Photography Club.
Joe is quick to state that his true passion is
creating his personal art. Many painters and photographers
have influenced my personal work which is photography-based
digital fine art. Traveling the world is another passion and
I am very fortunate to have been able to do this over the past
25 years. Of course travel photography is also at the top of
my list.
